Shoorveer: A Patriotic Series with a Different Concept

Plot

Shoorveer revolves around the formation of an elite command force, HAWKS, consisting of the best officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force to handle Red Alert – Level 3 and higher threats that are capable of coordinated attacks from land, air and sea. Captain Rajan Malik is given the responsibility to lead the force and train them to handle threat situations. Meanwhile, Pakistan has activated a sleeper agent to carry out an attack in India.

Acting

While Makrand Deshpande and Manish Choudhari deliver strong performances, some of the key characters in the show have been miscast, and their characters are badly written. Armaan Ralhan shines in his role as the rebellious Viraj, who has a beef with GC Malik and pilot Salim Kamali. Regina Cassandra, as Flight Lieutenant Avantika Rao, does a decent job, but the actors portraying the members of the HAWKS lack depth due to poor writing.

Cinematography

Shoorveer delivers on the visual front, particularly in the aerial dogfight sequences, showcasing action scenes that are gritty, realistic and well-choreographed. The show does a great job with visual effects and aerial stunts at a scale never before seen on Indian television or streaming content.

Direction

Directed by Kanishk Varma and created by Samar Khan, Shoorveer does a good job of delivering edge-of-the-seat drama that keeps you hooked, but the loose and predictable plot lets the series down. The narrative and direction do well to highlight the armed forces’ ‘service before self’ motto and valour, but the story's predictability makes it hard to sustain the audience's attention.

Overall Review

Shoorveer is a decent serving of a meal, with a different concept from the usual India-Pakistan rivalry storyline. The series starts off well and has its moments of gripping drama and patriotism. However, the characterisation and storyline are cliched and predictable, making it hard to sustain interest over time. The show delivers on the visual front, especially in aerial combat scenes, but falls short with weak characters and loose plotlines. A fun watch, but don't expect too much.
