Chhatriwali Movie Review: Rakul Preet Singh delivers a decent watch

Plot:

Chhatriwali is a social drama that revolves around Sanya Dhingra (Rakul Preet Singh), a chemistry graduate who takes up a job as a quality control head in a condom factory to make ends meet. She lies to her husband Rishi Kalra (Sumeet Vyas) and family about working in an umbrella factory. As she discovers the importance of safe sex and sex education, she takes up the cause to destigmatize the topic in Karnal.

Acting:

Rakul Preet Singh steers the film with her upfront approach and unflinching sincerity, building up on her character's optimism. Sumeet Vyas is excellent as the loving husband, while Rajesh Tailang and Prachee Shah Paandya convincingly play their parts. Satish Kaushik's portrayal as the condom company owner is funny but his garish wig distracts from the performance.

Cinematography:

The film is shot well, with the cinematography capturing the essence of small-town Karnal beautifully. The colors and tones used in each scene add to the storytelling.

Direction:

Director Tejas Vijay Deoskar handles the subject matter sensitively, delivering an important message without being too preachy. However, the film tends to lag in parts, and the plot gets a bit overwhelming at times.

Verdict:

Chhatriwali is a decent watch with predictable parts, but it delivers an important message about safe sex and the usage of contraceptives. The film could have been packaged and delivered more creatively and uniquely, but Rakul Preet Singh's upfront approach and unflinching sincerity carry the film. Overall, it's an informative and funny social drama that could have been better.
