Mission Raniganj Movie Review

Plot

The film, based on a real-life rescue mission, tells the story of engineer Jaswant Singh Gill who saved the lives of 65 miners trapped in a flooded coal mine in Raniganj, West Bengal. The plot follows Gill as he suggests a unique rescue method and overcomes corruption within the system to rescue the miners.

Acting

Akshay Kumar delivers a sincere performance, portraying Gill with immense conviction. However, the supporting performances are lackluster, with some actors appearing too theatrical. Parineeti Chopra, in a small role, barely leaves an impact.

Cinematography

The cinematography falls short, with shoddy production value and unconvincing visual effects. The ferocious water in the mine does not appear realistic, taking away from the overall viewing experience.

Direction

Director Tinu Suresh Desai fails to fully explore the potential of the story and characters. The film lacks character development and depth, focusing primarily on the actions of the hero. The storytelling could have delved deeper into the human psyche and behavior in a life-threatening situation.

Overall Verdict

Mission Raniganj, despite its potential, falls short of its goal. The first half of the film is poorly made, with no character buildup or gravity in the situation. However, the second half gains momentum, but is weighed down by immature conflicts and trivial internal politics. The film lacks depth leaving the audience indifferent towards an important event. Mission Raniganj pays tribute to the courageous rescue mission but falls short in its execution. Despite Akshay Kumar's sincere performance, the film lacks effort in pushing boundaries and exploring the characters in-depth. The cinematography and direction also hinder the overall impact of the film. While the story of unsung heroes deserves recognition, Mission Raniganj fails to deliver a truly engaging and emotionally resonant experience.
