Good Luck Jerry: An Okay-ish Watch
Plot
Good Luck Jerry revolves around a simple girl named Jerry who turns into a cocaine peddler to raise money for her mother’s cancer treatment. However, things go haywire when she wants to quit and her family gets dragged into the business. The film is full of way-out situations and kooky characters that add to the hilarity.Acting
Janhvi Kapoor shines bright in the role of Jerry, effortlessly slipping into the spirit of the character. Her supporting cast, including Deepak Dobriyal and Mita Vashisht, deliver moments of mirth that help offset the effects of the stretches that do not work. Sushant Singh plays a baddie and does a commendable job of threatening Jerry with every other thing. Overall, the performances are the highlight of the movie.Cinematography
The movie’s visual appeal is unique, managing to capture both the grubby and slick aspects of the local markets and landscapes. The film benefits from the effort put into making the setting realistic.Direction
Director Siddharth Sengupta keeps the narrative taut and turns the situation more curious when Jerry’s family is lured into the business. However, towards the end, the film gets monotonous and convoluted with scenes that do not take the story ahead.Overall Verdict
Good Luck Jerry is an okay-ish watch. While the performances of the actors are laudable, the plot tweaks that the original script resorted to have not worked entirely in their favor. While comparisons with the original Tamil film, Kolamaavu Kokila, are inevitable, Good Luck Jerry still manages to pass muster due to its pace and quirkiness. If you’re a Janhvi Kapoor fan, this film might just reinstate your faith in her, just by an inch. If not, there are other actors like Deepak and Sushant to make do.Share this review
