Plot
Ram Setu begins with Dr. Aryan Kulshreshtha, an archaeologist working for the Archaeological Survey of India, digging up Buddha statues in Afghanistan. After discovering a hidden khazana, Aryan must decide whether to hand it over to the Pakistani government or bring it back to India. Later, he is hired by a shipping tycoon to research the Ram Setu, a mythical bridge that connects India and Sri Lanka. Along with a team of scientists, Aryan embarks on a quest to uncover the truth behind the Ram Setu's existence and protect it from destruction.Acting
Akshay Kumar shines as Dr. Aryan Kulshreshtha, an atheist-turned-believer who sets out to prove the Ram Setu's historical significance. His performance is refreshing and engaging, unlike his recent roles in public service announcement movies. However, the female characters, including Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushrratt Bharuccha, are reduced to eye candy and have little to no impact on the story.Cinematography
The underwater sequences in Ram Setu are stunning, capturing the beauty and grandeur of the mythical bridge under the Indian ocean. However, the VFX and CGI are questionable and some scenes with the diving suit are cartoonish.Direction
Director Abhishek Sharma aims for a blend of Dan Brown's novel and Indiana Jones adventures but falls far short. The film is predictable and manipulative with a disservice to Lord Rama's legacy and faith in general.Overall
Ram Setu preaches about the legacy of Shree Ram and Ram Setu but lacks logic and is predictable and manipulative. Despite Akshay Kumar's refreshing performance, the film falters in its treatment of female characters and its VFX and CGI are questionable. While enjoyable in parts, Ram Setu is ultimately a letdown.Share this review
