A Thursday Movie Review: Yami Gautam Shines in This Female-Led Vigilante Thriller

Plot

When a Mumbai preschool teacher named Naina takes her students hostage, demanding a meeting with a specific cop and the Prime Minister, the police and media scramble to respond. As the day-long stand-off escalates, secrets are revealed and tensions rise.

Acting

Yami Gautam delivers one of her best performances to date, expertly transitioning from a warm and beloved teacher to a menacing villain. Neha Dhupia also shines as heavily pregnant cop Catherine, though her role could have been fleshed out more. Atul Kulkarni nails his role as the brusque Javed, while Dimple Kapadia exudes elegance and authority as the Prime Minister.

Cinematography

A Thursday uses Mumbai's relentless rain to great effect, creating a moody and tense atmosphere that adds to the drama.

Direction

Behzad Khambata's directorial style is serviceable, though some of the writing and execution could have been tighter.

Emotional impact

A Thursday may not be an edge-of-your-seat thriller, but it succeeds in delivering a powerful message and social commentary in its latter half, touching on a relevant issue that will resonate with women across the globe.

Final Verdict

A Thursday is a female-led vigilante thriller that balances plot twists and emotional resonance. While it may not be flawless, it delivers a strong message and should be on your must-watch list.
