Plot:

An Action Hero is Ayushmann Khurrana's first action film in which he plays a pompous and arrogant Bollywood superstar, Maanav, who calls himself an "Action Hero." One of Maanav's fans demands a picture with him, but he ignores the fan's request, leading to a mishap. Jaideep Ahlawat plays the villain Bhoora, who seeks revenge for his brother's death and travels to London to kill Maanav. The film is packed with mindless action, jumps in location and context, and unnecessary character introductions.

Acting:

Ayushmann Khurrana, playing a buffed-up action hero, does a good job, but his character lacks edge. Jaideep Ahlawat steals the show with his impeccable acting and Haryanvi accent. He delivers hilarious one-liners and punches and made the audience hoot and cheer throughout the film. The film features some other talented actors, but their characters lack depth.

Cinematography:

Kaushal Shah's photography captures the countryside beautifully and is smoothly integrated into the narrative.

Direction:

Anirudh Iyer's directorial debut is impressive. He delves into celebrity culture and the fickleness of fame. He has a steady grip on the narrative for the most part, but the random characters introduced in the film are unnecessary and make the film lengthy.

Music:

Varied music by Parag Chhabra and Tanishk Bagchi adds to the entertainment factor of the film. Malaika Arora and Nora Fatehi's dance numbers bring in the dose of oomph factor.

Overall:

An Action Hero is an entertaining film with a fair dose of action, comedy, and good performances. Ayushmann Khurrana flexes his muscles (literally) in his first action avatar. The film parodies the action genre with flair and intelligence and is worth watching in theatres.
