Animal - Movie Review

Plot

"Animal" is a revenge drama directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. The film revolves around the character of Rannvijay, played by Ranbir Kapoor, who grows up in a violent home and becomes ferocious as a result. He is fiercely devoted and protective of his father, played by Anil Kapoor.

Acting

The acting in "Animal" is commendable, with Ranbir Kapoor delivering a convincing performance as Rannvijay. He effectively portrays the toxic, annoying, and irrational persona of the character. Rashmika Mandanna, who plays Geetanjali, manages to make her mark in some of the scenes in the film, showing a step-up from Vanga's previous movies. Bobby Deol, despite doing his best, fails to make a lasting impact due to a poorly written part.

Cinematography

The cinematography in "Animal" is visually appealing, with credible cuts and transitions. The non-linear narrative adds to the engagement of the first half of the film. The production value is high, creating a visually pleasing experience for the audience.

Direction

Sandeep Reddy Vanga's direction in "Animal" falls short of expectations. While he promised a more problematic film than his previous works, the movie unfortunately veers into misogyny at several places. There is an emphasis on toxic masculinity, domesticity, and tradition, which may be off-putting for some viewers. Vanga does label Ranbir's character appropriately as a "criminal" at times, but that doesn't excuse the overall problematic nature of the storytelling.

Conclusion

The "Animal" can be termed as worth-watching film due to the acting performances, particularly by Ranbir Kapoor. All performances are commendable, but they are not enough to salvage the film. The cinematography and production value add to the visual appeal, but the overall direction by Sandeep Reddy Vanga misses the mark.
