Aseq Movie Review: A Disappointing Blend of Horror and Romance

Plot

Ronnie goes through a breakup with his ex, Priyanka. In need of money, Ronnie meets Lail outside a club and invites her to stay at his place for a while. As bizarre things start happening, Ronnie, Lail, and his friends experience eerie incidents and believe that Priyanka has performed black magic. The mysterious Jinn, Aseq, becomes the center of their attention, but who is this Jinn and what is their true intention? The answers unfold in the end.

Acting

The performances in Aseq are earnest but fall short of delivering authenticity. The actors appear serious in this laughable story, often sounding like they are merely reading their lines. The dialogues feel outdated, and the main characters take too long to figure out the truth, making them seem unintelligent.

Cinematography

The cinematography fails to capture the fear on screen effectively. Darkly shot scenes make it difficult to discern the main villain, the Jinn, resulting in missed visual impact. Additionally, the VFX and makeup for the Jinn are underwhelming, leaving room for improvement. The film lacks unsettling background music, which is crucial for building tension in a horror movie.

Direction

Writer-director Sarin Momin creates sporadic moments of unease in Aseq with spooky scenes but struggles to fully explore the film's intriguing premise. The execution falls short, and the characters lack depth, hindering audience connection. The pacing is uneven, and the screenplay becomes predictable, diminishing the overall impact. The use of clichéd dialogue further weakens the narrative's effectiveness.

Verdict

Aseq fails to deliver genuine horror or innovate within the supernatural genre. Despite its intriguing concept involving Jinn, the film falls flat in execution, leaving viewers disappointed. While it may hold some value as a one-time watch for those curious about the subject matter, Aseq fails to meet expectations and lacks the memorable horror experience.
