Avrodh: The Siege Within Review - A Deep Look into the Surgical Strikes

Plot

Avrodh – The Siege Within, a Sony Liv original, is a retelling of the 2016 surgical strikes. Based on the bestseller India’s Most Fearless by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh, the show delves deep into the surgical strikes and features the series of events leading up to the forceful retaliation by the Indian Army to avenge the Uri terrorist attack of September 2016. The show is told mostly from a journalist’s point of view, and partly from the on-ground officer’s perspective.

Acting

The show has an impressive star cast with Amit Sadh, Neeraj Kabi, Darshan Kumaar, and Arif Zakaria transforming into pivotal characters. Pavail Gulati and Madhurima Tuli also make their presence felt. Amit Sadh plays a no-nonsense officer, while Neeraj Kabi plays the national security advisor. Madhurima Tuli plays a journalist who compromises national security in her search for the next scoop.

Cinematography

Avrodh is visually well executed. The show is well shot, with the outdoor sets and locations looking realistic. The action scenes are well choreographed and executed.

Direction

Directed by Raj Acharya, the show does an excellent job of showcasing the surgical strikes. The emphasis is on not letting the strings cut loose and the atmosphere appear lighter than the occasion demands. Acharya has put enough emphasis on realism, not letting the drama part overshadow the focus on the surgical strikes.

Verdict

Avrodh is a gripping series that delves deep into the surgical strikes. It is realistically portrayed and the acting is competent, with each episode moving the plot forward effectively. The dialogue is relatable and conversational, and the show overall is a breezy watch. However, the show falls just short on the action and emotion front, with no notable ‘how’s the josh?’ moment. It is a watchable show and if you are a fan of action across enemy lines then this might be the show for you.
