Babli Bouncer Movie Review: A Lazy Attempt at Feminism

Plot

Babli Bouncer follows the story of Babli, a young girl from a village in Haryana who moves to Delhi after securing a job as a bouncer at a pub. Although her ambitions are not her own, she soon finds meaning in life and begins to explore her strengths beyond marriage or having kids. However, the film focuses more on a love triangle between Babli and two men, rather than delving into the experiences of female bouncers in a male-dominated field.

Acting

Tamannaah Bhatia carries the film on her shoulders with her portrayal of Babli. She captures the physicality and innocence of the character, and her comedic timing is on point. However, the supporting cast does not have much to work with, and their performances are average at best.

Cinematography

The film is shot beautifully, with the essence of Haryana and Delhi captured well on camera. The music is decent but does not add much value to the overall film.

Direction

Madhur Bhandarkar, known for his unapologetic portrayal of reality in showbiz, disappoints with this film. The writing is predictable and lacks depth, and the attempt at feminism feels forced and inconsistent. Bhandarkar seems to have given in to following a certain 'formula' for the film, losing its essence in the process.

Overall

Babli Bouncer squanders its promising plot with lazy writing, cliches, and questionable narrative choices. The film lacks a soul and struggles to decide if it wants to be a coming-of-age story or a fun comedy laden with stereotypes. While Tamannaah Bhatia shines bright as Babli, it is not enough to make the film worth investing in. Madhur Bhandarkar's weakest offering in a decade, Babli Bouncer is a disappointing attempt at feminism that falls short on every front.
