'Dharavi Bank' Review: A Flawed Crime Drama with Some Strong Performances

Plot

The series follows the rise and fall of Thalaivan, a gangster from Dharavi, one of the largest slums in Mumbai, who owns a multimillion-dollar business and wields significant influence. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Janvi Surve, and Joint Commissioner of Police Jayant Gavaskar plot to bring him down, leading to a bloody conflict between Thalaivan and the law.

Acting

Suniel Shetty delivers a compelling performance in his OTT debut as Thalaivan, the brutal and cunning gang lord of Dharavi. Vivek Oberoi plays Jayant Gavaskar, the cop tasked with eliminating him, with his trademark intensity. Sonali Kulkarni does an excellent job of playing the conniving and ruthless Chief Minister.

Cinematography

The show's camerawork is one of its strengths, with impressive drone shots capturing the sprawling slum of Dharavi. The close-up shots of the actors add to the series' authenticity, while the cinematography contributes to the dark and gritty tone of the show.

Direction

Samit Kakkad's direction is uneven, with inconsistent pacing and a lack of finesse in conveying the show's violence and gore. The predictable and monotonous plot also suffers from an overstretched runtime.

Overall Impressions

'Dharavi Bank' is a flawed gangster drama that fails to live up to its potential.
