Dhokha: Round D Corner - A Film Review

Plot:

Dhokha: Round D Corner starts with the romantic track of Yatharth and Sanchi's marriage which now faces a separation. The plot soon picks up pace after Sanchi is taken hostage by a Kashmiri terrorist, Haq Gul. As the situation progresses, each character provides a different version of the incidents, throwing doubts on who is telling the truth.

Acting:

The stars of the movie are Aparshakti Khurana and Khushalii Kumar. Khushalii's debut performance is noteworthy, as she portrays the complex role of a delusional, manipulative, and seductive housewife with ease. Aparshakti is impactful as the terrorist, Haq Gul, and his performance evokes emotions of anger, disillusionment, and helplessness effortlessly. R Madhavan and Darshan Kumaar, the other lead actors, do justice to their roles, but the movie fails to utilize their talents fully.

Cinematography:

Dhokha: Round D Corner has primarily been shot in one location, and the cinematography fails to create the desired impact. The background score is deafening, and the absence of any songs may be a relief, but it does not compensate for the movie's lackluster visuals.

Direction:

Director Kookie Gulati's outing leaves much to be desired on the direction front. The movie becomes monotonous and repetitive quickly, though it picks up pace in the second half when things turn more confrontational. The big plot twist may seem mind-bending only to viewers unfamiliar with the genre; the turn of events is rather predictable. The tracks, characters and backstories are not developed enough to be convincing or impactful.

Verdict:

Dhokha: Round D Corner fails to create any significant impact as a suspense thriller. The movie becomes monotonous and repetitive, and the characters and the plot fail to evoke the desired emotions. The big plot twist may appeal only to viewers unfamiliar with the genre, and the absence of any significant subplots makes the movie predictable and stale. Though the performances by the lead actors are decent, they fail to compensate for the movie's flaws. Overall, Dhokha: Round D Corner fails to deliver on its promise.
