Movie Review: Freddy
Plot
Freddy, directed by Shashanka Ghosh, is a psychological thriller that tells the story of Dr Freddy Ginwala (Kartik Aaryan), a lonely and socially awkward dentist haunted by a childhood trauma. Freddy falls in love with a married woman, Kainaaz (Alaya F), and obsessively plots ways to prove his love for her, revealing a darker and more dangerous side to his personality. The film weaves a web of intrigue and blurs the line between victim and villain.Acting
Kartik Aaryan delivers a terrific and unnerving performance as Freddy, immersing himself in the character and altering his weight, body language, and gaze to convey Freddy's complexities and eccentricities. Alaya F is impressive in her role, but her onscreen chemistry with Aaryan lacks sparks.Cinematography
Director Shashanka Ghosh uses every shade of grey in his cinematic canvas to paint Freddy's cryptic world, creating an eerie atmosphere of uncertainty around every character who crosses Freddy's path.Direction
Ghosh succeeds in making Freddy the centerpiece of this loosely put together puzzle, with atmospheric music and peripheral characters who play a significant role in Freddy's life working in sync to take the story forward.Overall
Despite its flaws, Freddy is a commendable attempt at a psychological thriller and a brave departure from Aaryan's usual comedic roles. While it does not quite reach its potential, it still makes for an unsettling and chilling watch.Share this review
