Movie Review: Ghoomer

Plot

'Ghoomer' is a story of young and talented cricketer who loses her right hand in an unfortunate accident. Her life comes back on track when she realises that it is not finished yet with the help of a mentor. A mentor who is an unsuccessful cricketer but gets ready to train her to achieve what seems impossible.

Acting

Abhishek Bachchan is absolutely perfect as Paddy. His comic timing and dialogue delivery is to the point and justifies the character. Saiyami Kher gives an assured performance that anchors the film's emotional core. Shabana Azmi is lovely as Anina’s level-headed and commanding grandmother.

Cinematography

The film opens with an introduction of women cricketers as they walk into the field and it's tells about the feeling of the movie. The visuals capture the emotions and energy of the sport effectively. The camera work throughout the film is impressive, highlighting the physicality and intensity of the cricket scenes.

Direction

R Balki's direction brings a unique take on relationships and gender roles. The film goes beyond the standard sports drama template and offers a moving tale of resilience and vulnerability. The storytelling is progressive and balances inspiration with melodrama.

Overall Verdict

'Ghoomer' is a perfect movie for masses that proves to be roller-coster ride with tears in eyes and happy moments to put smiles on your faces. The film's emotional appeal and strong performances make for engaging viewing. However, the writing and screenplay could have been stronger to fully evoke the intended emotions. Overall, it is a worthy watch for fans of sports dramas.
