Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire - Movie Review
Plot
The film follows the Spengler family as they battle an ancient spirit with ambitions to capture the New York City in ice. The film aims to recapture the original's charm but falls short due to a lack of it's own identity. The film caters to multiple subplots with their own agenda.
Acting
McKenna Grace's portrayal of Phoebe is soothing amidst the chaos, while other performances feel forced or underdeveloped. The cast manages to save some part of it with occasional humor injections, but overall, the characters are weakly drawn and fail to make a lasting impact.
Cinematography
The film's visuals are lackluster, with little to no innovation or creativity in its cinematography. The special effects and CGI fail to impress, and the overall look of the film feels tired and uninspired.
Direction
Director Gil Kenan struggles to bring out the best in the film, with an overabundance of characters and subplots leading to a disjointed narrative. The pacing is slow, and the main antagonist takes too long to make an impact, resulting in a weak finale that fails to leave a lasting impression.
Conclusion
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire could not do justice to the original franchisee spirit. While it may appeal to die-hard fans with some cameos and memories of old times, the film ultimately falls short in delivering the charm and wit of the original. Despite some standout performances, the film suffers from a lackluster script, uninspired visuals, and a disjointed narrative. Overall, 'Frozen Empire' fails to live up to its potential, leaving audiences yearning for more.
