Gulmohar Movie Review

Plot

Gulmohar is a story of the Batra family spending their last four days in their family home, which is about to be razed for redevelopment. The matriarch, Kusum Batra, decides to move to Puducherry and live independently, celebrating Holi with her family for the last time. The film follows individual storylines of each family member, their secrets, dynamics, and what the future holds for them.

Acting

The film boasts a splendidly perfect cast, with Sharmila Tagore as Kusum Batra, Manoj Bajpayee as Arun Batra, Simran as Indu Batra, and Suraj Sharma as Aditya Batra. The performances are noteworthy, and the chemistry between Manoj and Simran as husband and wife is remarkable. Amol Palekar plays Manoj's bitter uncle Sudhakar Batra with aplomb, while Utsavi Jha as Amrita Batra, and Kaveri Seth as Aditya's wife, Divya, give commendable performances.

Cinematography

The film's opening sequence shows Rahul V Chitella's command over direction and storytelling. The movie is replete with symbolism and memorable melodies, including Dilkash, Sapno Ke Pakhi, Woh Ghar, and Hori Mein.

Direction

Rahul V Chitella has captured conflict and the complexities of family relationships with precision. The film talks about compromises, taking a stand, and how fathers and sons carry the same burden, among others, to prove themselves to each other.

Overall Impression

Gulmohar offers a loaded, layered understanding of familial relationships and its impact on the periphery people. The movie is heartfelt, cerebral, and thought-provoking, with a focus on the essence of family, the foundation a home is built on, and parenting above parentage.

Verdict

Gulmohar may lose pace in a few places, but it will keep you interested throughout. The movie is worth a watch to revel in the stories and characters that offer many heartwarming moments.
