Gumraah Movie Review

Plot

Gumraah is a scene-by-scene remake of Tamil actor Arun Vijay's Thadam. A murder takes place and the main suspect, Arjun, is picked up by Inspector Shivani. However, soon one of Arjun's lookalikes, Ronnie, also becomes a suspect. With the police having two days to solve the case, the story becomes more complicated as secrets related to the case unravel. Who is the real killer, and will Shivani solve the case?

Acting

Aditya Roy Kapur shines in both his roles as the nattily-dressed professional and the streetsmart crook, Ronnie. Mrunal Thakur as the no-nonsense cop stands her ground, while Ronit Roy plays the conniving boss, ACP Dhiren Yadav. Vedika Pinto performs well despite limited screen time.

Cinematography

Ketan Sodha's background score adds to the thrill, and the soundtrack has hummable tunes. Mithoon's Allah De Bande and Abhijit Vaghani's title track stand out.

Direction

Vardhan Ketkar's direction skillfully engages the viewers right from the opening scene when a murder is committed to the end when the mystery unravels. Aseem Arora and Magizh Thirumeni's screenplay and Ketkar's taut direction ensure the story moves along quickly for most part.

Verdict

Gumraah is a passably engaging whodunnit that manages to hold your attention while it lasts. Despite being a straightforward story, the plot twists are engrossing, and the story becomes better with a refreshing backstory. If you are looking for thrill and ready to engross yourself for a 2 hour show then you should go for this one time watch.
