Plot

Human delves deep into the ruthless ways of big pharmaceutical companies and hospitals, and the consequences for unsuspecting patients. The show's main focus is on the drug S93R, which a major pharmaceutical company aims to repackage as a supermedicine, even though it is banned in the West. The story follows the unethical human drug trial of S93R, and its impact on three lead characters, all connected to the trial.

Acting

Shefali Shah's performance as the character Gauri Nath is one of her best roles ever, and one of the best characters in an Indian web series till date. She plays a disturbingly sociopathic victim of a traumatic childhood who is singularly committed to building her business, whilst portraying herself as a saint to the people of Bhopal. Kirti Kulhari, Vishal Jethwa and Ram Kapoor also deliver gripping performances.

Cinematography

The series features realistic production design by Shriram Kanna Iyengar and Sujeet Subhash Sawant, and cinematographer Sirsha Ray has skillfully shot the show, capturing its intense moments beautifully.

Direction

Vipul Amrutlal Shah and Mozez Singh should be applauded for exploring a subject that is seldom seen in Indian web series. The engaging screenplay includes parallel plots and subplots, and the excursions into horror aptly communicate the evils of unbridled capitalism.

Overall

Human is an intense and engrossing series. While it makes a compelling watch, the faint-hearted may find it a little morbid at times. However, for anyone interested in the dark underbelly of the biopharma industry, this web series is a must-watch. It opens the discussion on corruption and violations within the healthcare system, and provides insights into the importance of transparency and accountability within the pharmaceutical industry.
