Hurdang: A Missed Opportunity

Plot

Set in Allahabad (Prayagraj) in 1990, Hurdang revolves around student leader Daddu who falls in love with Jhulan. As Daddu gets involved in the agitation against the Mandal Commission's recommendations, his relationship with Jhulan gets impacted. However, the love story and the political backdrop fail to leave an impact.

Acting

The actors, including Sunny Kaushal, Nushrratt Bharuccha, and Vijay Verma, have delivered their roles efficiently. However, with a weak script, their performances fail to elevate the film.

Cinematography

The film's cinematography fails to create an impact. The backdrop, which could have been a powerful element, is not explored well.

Direction

Director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat's attempt to make a film on student politics in the 1990s falls short. The film's narrative fails to delve deep into the subject, resulting in a weak plot.

Verdict

Hurdang had the potential to be a powerful take on student politics, caste, and class divide of the 1990s but falls flat. Despite the actors' efforts, the weak script and poor execution fail to make an impact.
