Review: Kadak Singh
Plot
'Kadak Singh' revolves around AK Srivastava, an officer at the Department of Financial Crimes (DFC), who attempts suicide but fails. This affects his mental condition and he is diagnosed with selective amnesia. As he tries to piece together the events leading up to his suicide attempt, he unravels a financial scam case that he was working on. The plot takes us through different versions of Srivastava's life story as told by his family, friends, and colleagues, ultimately leading to a surprising revelation.
Acting
The movie boasts a stellar cast, including Pankaj Tripathi, Parvathy, Sanjana Sanghi, Jaya Ahsan, Paresh Pahuja, and others. Pankaj Tripathi delivers a commendable performance as AK Srivastava, bringing forth the complexities of his character convincingly. Parvathy impresses with her understated yet effective portrayal of the nurse, Miss Kannan. Sanjana Sanghi holds her own in some scenes but falls short in a few others. Overall, the seasoned actors bring depth and authenticity to their roles.
Cinematography
The cinematography in 'Kadak Singh' sets the mood effectively, particularly in scenes that enhance the suspense and tension. The standout scene featuring Sakshi walking into an old mall where she gets locked inside a store. The scene with mannequins is visually striking and helps build considerable tension. The overall visual presentation complements the psychological thriller genre of the film.
Direction
Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury's direction in 'Kadak Singh' tries to build the narrative through unfolding truths, exploring Srivastava's personal and professional life. However, the pacing of the film is excruciatingly slow, and the narrative feels overstuffed, making it difficult to fully engage with the suspense and thrill. Despite these flaws, Chowdhury manages to connect all the dots in the last half hour, leading to a satisfying conclusion.
Conclusion
'Kadak Singh' is a psychological thriller that attempts to explore complex themes of memory, family dynamics, and financial fraud. While the film falls short in terms of pacing and narrative execution, it is redeemed by the stellar performances of the cast and some visually striking scenes. Overall, it qualifies as a decent one-time watch especially for fans of the genre.
