Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan: A Banal and Boring Family Entertainer

Plot

Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan revolves around Bhaijaan (Salman Khan), who has dedicated his life raising his three brothers and in that hustle, he decided never to marry. But when Bhagyalaxmi (Pooja Hedge) enters the scene, things change and he finds a new purpose in life. However, the wafer-thin plot tries to achieve a lot but doesn't really end up going places.

Acting

Salman Khan pumps in all his muscle literally, to make Bhaijaan’s character lovable, and he succeeds in that. The actor still packs a punch as an action hero and has the charm to get away with exchanging goofy and adorable sweet nothings with his lady love. South superstar Venkatesh and Salman pull out all stops to create high impact with their heavy-duty action scenes. Pooja Hegde has a meaty role, which she pulls off confidently, but could have dialed down over-the-top filmy antics. The other three heroines are used merely as props with very little scope to perform.

Cinematography

The less-than-average soundtrack adds to the runtime with one forgettable number after another. Among them, ‘Naiyyo Lagda’ (composed by Himesh Reshammiya) stands out. The background score (Ravi Basrur) could have been a little less jarring and the film could have done with a tighter edit.

Direction

Director and co-writer Farhad Samji’s story throws in a lot of bloody action with little semblance to logic and normalcy. The first half tests your patience with scenes that intend to be funny but are not. The loud performances don't help much. The story simply doesn’t kickstart until the interval. Samji keeps his screenplay busy with too many characters and doesn't care much about fleshing them out.

Overall

Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan is a no-brains family entertainer led by Salman suitable for nothing other than a cringe-binge hatewatch. If you've missed seeing Bhai on Eid in his truest avatar pulling off some raw, hardcore action and signature hook steps with unbearable melodrama, then Kisi Ka Bhai is for you. However, the banal South-meets-North khichdi cooked up by Farhad Samji fails to impress. The film is painfully long and stretched. Despite its sprawling cast, weak screenplay, and unimpressive soundtrack, Salman's fans can look forward to watching him beat up the baddies all the way till the end.
