Looop Lapeta: A Hysterical Ride With a Time-Ticking Premise

Plot

Looop Lapeta, a Hindi adaptation of the acclaimed German thriller from the 90s, follows the story of Savi (Taapsee Pannu), an athlete who uses her sprinting skills to save her boyfriend Satya (Tahir Raj Bhasin), who loses Rs 50 lakh that he had to deliver to a mobster and now has only 80 minutes to save his life. The movie explores the concept of being stuck in a time loop, where Savi gets three chances to save Satya, familiarizing us with the characters' backgrounds and adding depth to the original story while also drawing parallels with the Hindu myth of Savitri-Satyavan.

Acting

Taapsee Pannu's performance as the relentless and determined Savi is faultless, as she continues to play unconventional characters and tell varied stories that keep viewers hooked to their screens. Her performance is matched by Tahir Raj Bhasin, who plays Satya and delivers a deliciously good performance in this one. The supporting cast also delivers stunning performances, with Shreya Dhanwanthary playing Julia and Sameer Kevin Roy playing Jacob.

Cinematography

The cinematography in Looop Lapeta, done by Yash Khanna, is highly saturated and kaleidoscopic, using retro and neon colors that add an extra edge to the quirky screenplay.

Direction

Directed by Aakash Bhatia, Looop Lapeta manages to create its own engaging mad world and identity, staying true to the original in spirit and execution while also adding twists and turns to the story to keep viewers engaged. The talented team of writers, including Vinay Chhawal, Arnav Nanduri, and Ketan Pedgaonkar, ensures that the adapted screenplay is simplified for Indian audiences, making it a refreshing attempt to move beyond the mundane.

Verdict

Looop Lapeta is a hysterical ride with a time-ticking premise that is a welcome addition to the relatively new genre of time loop movies in Hindi language entertainment. Though it takes some detours that add to the runtime and compromise the sense of urgency
