Nikamma: A Mindless and Patchy Bollywood Remake
Plot
Nikamma is a Bollywood remake of the 2017 Telugu film Middle Class Abbayi. The protagonist Adi, played by Abhimanyu Dassani, is a jobless and lazy young man who is forced to live with his brother's wife, the stern RTO officer Avni, played by Shilpa Shetty. When Avni's life is threatened by Vikramjit Bisht, a rogue businessman who wishes to become a politician, Adi decides to protect her discreetly.Acting
Abhimanyu Dassani shows promise as an actor but finds no support from the weak writing and direction. Shilpa Shetty Kundra looks stunning and performs well in the limited character that she has on her hands. Shirley Setia is pretty but has very little scope to display any of her wares as an actress. Abhimanyu Singh delivers an impressive performance as the villain Vikramjeet Bisht.Cinematography
The overall look of the central characters seems out of place for a fictitious small-town like Dhaamli where the story unfolds. The film had ample scope for music, too, but the tracks are not memorable, barring the title track, Nikamma kiya, which is the rebooted version of an old song.Direction
Director Sabbir Khan's Nikamma makes you wonder how wrong a filmmaker can go with his story, treatment, pace, and overall impact. The first half of Nikamma is extremely patchy and looks like pieces of a puzzle have been mindlessly put together without any thought.Final Verdict
Nikamma is a mindless and patchy Bollywood remake with a weak plot, editing, and direction. The film is way too lengthy for its runtime and tests the audience's patience. The only reason to watch it is for the grace, poise, and charm that Shilpa Shetty brings onscreen.Share this review
