'Rocket Boys' Review: A Captivating Tribute to India’s Scientific Luminaries

Plot

‘Rocket Boys’ is a compelling biographical drama that follows the journey of two legendary Indian physicists, Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha and Dr. Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai, who made history while building India’s future. The series recreates iconic moments from the pre and post-Independence era, and the concept by Abhay Koranne is both intense and inspiring.

Acting

Jim Sarbh as Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha and Ishwak Singh as Dr. Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai deliver credible performances as the two pioneers in Indian science. Regina Cassandra, Saba Azad, Rajit Kapoor, Arjun Radhakrishnan, and other ensemble cast members add depth and dimension to their respective roles.

Cinematography

The director of photography Harshvir Oberai deserves special mention for recreating the pre and post-Independence eras. The vintage clothing outfits by Uma Biju and Biju Antony helped in adding a realistic-looking element to the story.

Direction

Abhay Pannu's direction captures the real-life events and struggles of the two scientists, their personal lives, and their efforts to make India a nuclear power. The pacing of each nearly hour-long episode may be a bit much for some, but science enthusiasts will undoubtedly binge-watch it.

Overall

‘Rocket Boys’ is a glowing tribute to India's scientific luminaries and their hard work. The series effectively sheds light on the role India played in the global physics community during the time period, including the country's growth in nuclear power research. The cast, direction, and cinematography all come together beautifully to create an inspiring and engaging biographical drama about two pioneers in Indian science.
