Rocketry: The Nambi Effect - An Inspiring Biopic with Technical Incoherence

Plot

Rocketry: The Nambi Effect is a biopic based on the life of Nambi Narayanan, a pioneering rocket scientist from India. The story chronicles his achievements, passion for the country's space mission, his dedication, and the false accusation that eventually became the biggest setback of his personal and professional life. The film plays out in flashback as Nambi Narayanan narrates his life story to superstar Shah Rukh Khan in 2014.

Acting

R Madhavan plays the lead role of Nambi Narayanan with full conviction. He relives Narayanan’s real-life in reel with his makeup, dialogue delivery, and expressions. Shah Rukh Khan plays himself as the interviewer who mirrors the conscience of a nation for a man who dedicated his life to a cause against all odds. Simran, playing the role of Nambi's wife Meena, gives a solid performance and adds depth to the story.

Cinematography

The film has splendid visuals and the cinematography is worth a mention, especially the space shots at the beginning.

Direction

The film is written, directed, produced, and acted in by R Madhavan. He handles the subject with deep understanding and portrays it with full dedication and earnestness as an actor. However, as a director, the filmmaking seems amateurish in the first half, and there are some technical incoherencies throughout the film.

Overall Verdict

Rocketry: The Nambi Effect is an inspiring biopic that tells the untold story of a man who was wronged for always being right for his nation. The film has a lot of dramatic moments that make it worth your while. R Madhavan's portrayal of Nambi Narayanan is outstanding and deserves an applause, but the technical incoherence makes it difficult for a layperson to decipher. Although the second half is much stronger and emotionally draining, the film's slow pace and overzealous excitement to assert the heroism of its protagonist make it seem like a James Bond thriller at times. Overall, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect is a niche film that has an interesting subject and an underdog tale that manages to hold everyone's attention with its compelling storytelling and execution.
