Plot

The Edge of Darkness is a six-part series that doesn't need a backstory as it has nothing to do with Idris Elba's BBC drama, Luther except for the fact that it is a remake. The show revolves around a gritty cop, Rudra, played by Ajay Devgn, who bends the rules to solve cases that no one else can. The plot is straightforward and tight, and the writing stays true to the original, ensuring an engrossing watch for viewers who love the genre.

Acting

Ajay Devgn, known for his intense roles, dons the character of Rudra flawlessly. He is unapologetic, rough, and human. Devgn's portrayal brings out the complex and flawed nature of his character, making it relatable and sympathetic. The supporting cast does a commendable job in elevating the show. Every actor fits their part perfectly, and their performances blend seamlessly with the intense narrative.

Cinematography

The Edge of Darkness boasts a dark and gloomy vibe that perfectly captures the seedy underbelly of the world it's set in. The show's cinematography is impressive, capturing the essence of the locales and the characters' emotions vividly. The pacing is perfect, intense when it needs to be, and the cinematography is always sharp, which keeps the audience engaged.

Direction

Rajesh Mapuskar's direction is uncompromising and intentional. He stays true to the material, making it his own without altering the essence. Mapuskar successfully captures the bleak and desperate atmosphere of the show and enhances it with his vision. His direction elevates the show, making it one of the most compelling watches of the year.

Final Verdict

The Edge of Darkness is a rare gem in the sea of mediocre OTT shows. The performances are excellent, the writing is tight, and the direction is spot-on. The show is designed to keep you on the edge of your seat, and it delivers. With Ajay Devgn in the lead, the show gets an added boost, making it a must-watch for any fan of crime dramas. If you're looking for something that will keep you hooked, look no further than The Edge of Darkness.
