Plot:

Scoop is based on the true events of the 2011 Jigna Vora case, where crime reporter Jagruti Pathak (Karishma Tanna) becomes the prime suspect in the murder of veteran crime journalist Jaideb Sen (Prosenjit Chatterjee). The series follows Jagruti's life in prison and her fight to prove her innocence.

Acting:

Karishma Tanna delivers a powerful performance as Jagruti, portraying a fiery woman trying to break the glass ceiling in a male-dominated field, a mentor, mother, and victim. Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub as Imran, the editor-in-chief, and her supporter, deserves special mention, as does Harman Baweja as a cop torn between his fondness for Jagruti and saving his and the department's skin. Deven Bhojani plays Jagruti's uncle and his love for her and his family will warm one's heart.

Cinematography:

Pratham Mehta's cinematography lends a realistic look to the show, capturing the newsroom and editorial meetings, shady bars and cafes where reporters meet their sources, and Jagruti's home. The portrayal of life in prison is chilling and stomach-churning.

Direction:

Hansal Mehta and writers Mrunmayee Lagoo Waikul and Mirat Trivedi have presented a well-researched tale with realism as its strong point. The pace, plot, and characters are well-crafted, making every minute of the hour-long, six-episode long series worth it.

Verdict:

Scoop is not a show you can choose for a breezy watch. The show takes time to pick up pace, but the courtroom sequences are intriguing. Journalism, crime reporting, the underbelly, and prison life make for gritty and intriguing storytelling. It's a must-watch for fans of investigative dramas and those who have some inkling about how journalism operates. Hansal Mehta has yet again delivered a brilliant show that stands on its own ground with an immediacy attempted by very few shows in recent memory.
