Shastry Viruddh Shastry : Movie Review

Plot

This film, "Viruddh Shastry," addresses a common issue faced by many urban parents – their reliance on grandparents to help raise their children. The story revolves around Yaman, played by Kabir Pahwa, who lives in the picturesque town of Panchgani with his grandparents. Yaman's parents are focused on building their careers in Mumbai and only visit Panchgani on weekends. However, when Yaman's father receives a job offer in the United States and plans to move, his grandfather strongly opposes the idea, leading to a tense legal battle for custody.

Acting

The performances in the film are deserving of high praise, especially Paresh Rawal's portrayal of the affectionate grandfather and Amruta Subhash's excellent performance as the sharp-witted lawyer. The rest of the cast, including Shiv Panditt, Mimi Chakraborty, and Kabir Pahwa, also deliver strong and confident performances.

Cinematography

The cinematography skillfully captures the enchanting beauty of Panchgani, utilizing the stunning backdrop to enhance the emotional impact of the storyline.

Direction

Directors Nandita Roy and Shiboprasad Mukherjee handle the sensitive topic of parenthood and parenting with finesse. They find a perfect balance in developing the characters and creating thought-provoking moments. However, the film's long duration becomes a drawback in its final thirty minutes, potentially testing the audience's patience.

Conclusion

In conclusion, "Viruddh Shastry" offers a thought-provoking cinematic experience that explores the reliance on grandparents for childcare. The performances, particularly by Paresh Rawal and Amruta Subhash, are commendable. The film effectively captures the emotional journey of its characters. However, viewers should be prepared for the extended length of the film, which may challenge their patience. Overall, this social drama provides valuable insights into the dynamics of modern families.
