Tara vs Bilal Movie Review: A Sweet and Simple Love Story

Plot

Tara vs Bilal is a love story that revolves around Bilal and Tara, who have entirely different expectations from life. The film begins in London when Tara arrives for her honeymoon only to realize that her husband has abandoned her and taken all of her belongings. Fate brings Tara and Bilal together, leading to a phoney marriage alliance due to family pressure. The rest of the film follows their journey as they try to overcome their inner demons and fall in love.

Acting

The casting of the film is perfect, with Harshvardhan Rane portraying his character with charm and Sonia Rathee matching up with her character's innocence and vulnerability. Raheem Mir, who plays the queer Ritz, has some snappy one-liners, and his Lal Dupatta sequence is simply hilarious. The elderly women gang, played by Mona Ambegaonkar, Shagufta Ali, Deepika Amin, and Niki Walia, did well in their supporting roles.

Cinematography

Tara vs Bilal is shot in some of London's most beautiful locations and has above-average production values. The romantic song Teri Ho Gayi by Manan Bhardwaj adds gravitas to the lead couple's romance, whereas his Nichod Dunga is quite upbeat and peppy.

Direction

Directed by Samar Iqbal, Tara vs Bilal is a simple romantic tale that will make you laugh and cry at the same time. The right dose of humour is incorporated into various scenes throughout the movie, making it entertaining to watch. The film's writing is far too simplistic, making this layered narrative a predictable fare.

Overall Verdict

Tara vs Bilal is a sweet and simple love story that makes for a light and breezy watch. The film nails the most important aspect of a romantic drama right: the heart-warming love story. Despite the predictable plot, interesting plot twists keep you engrossed throughout. Overall, Tara vs Bilal is a welcome change from the recent spate of remakes in Bollywood.
