'The Trial' Review
Plot:
'The Trial' is the portrayal of the life of Noyonika Sengupta, a once accomplished lawyer, who decides to make a comeback with her career following an unpleasant incident. The narrative revolves around her struggles to balance her personal and professional life as her husband faces a sex scandal and media trial. Alongside these concurrent plotlines, the series also touches upon controversial real-life cases, such as those involving Sushant Singh Rajput and Rhea Chakraborty.
Acting:
Kajol delivers an outstanding performance as Noyonika Sengupta, exuding elegance and resilience in a role befitting her age. The supporting cast, including Jisshu Sengupta, Alyy Khan, Sheeba Chaddha, Kubbra Sait, and others, bring the required gravitas to their respective roles. However, some performances falter due to poor character development and writing.
Cinematography:
The series has a gloomy overall mood and vibe, which is complemented by sharp editing and writing. However, the cinematography fails to offer anything unique or visually striking.
Direction:
Director Suparn Verma's direction is decent, but the lack of commitment to the subject matter and narrative loopholes hinder the overall impact of the series.
Verdict:
Overall, 'The Trial' is a decent series with a gripping plot and good performances. However, it falls short of our expectations due to its lack of depth in characters, storytelling and some inconsistencies here and there.
