Movie Review: Three Of Us

Plot

The movie revolves around Shailaja, a middle-aged woman diagnosed with early-stage dementia, who decides to revisit her childhood home in Vengurla, Konkan, before her memories start fading. She embarks on a journey of self-discovery and closure, accompanied by her husband Dipankar. Along the way, they meet Shailaja's former friend Pradeep, and together they reminisce about the past and confront their unfinished love story.

Acting

The performances in Three Of Us are commendable. Shefali Shah portrays the vulnerability and fear of losing her identity and memories with subtlety and grace. Jaideep Ahlawat shines as Pradeep, perfectly capturing the excitement and awkwardness of his character. Swanand Kirkire and Kadambari Kadam deliver relatable performances, adding depth to their characters.

Cinematography

The cinematography by Avinash Arun Dhaware beautifully captures the idyllic beauty of the Konkan region. The frames are filled with visual metaphors and natural grace, creating a tranquil atmosphere that enhances the storytelling. The depiction of the coastal town of Vengurla and its close-knit culture adds authenticity to the narrative.

Direction

Avinash Arun Dhaware showcases his evolved understanding of adult relationships in Three Of Us. He explores the themes of time, nostalgia, and closure with a meditative and melancholic approach. While some scenes tug at the heartstrings, the film overall feels lost and unsure of its message. The ferris wheel scene stands out as a memorable and effective moment in the otherwise meandering plot.

Conclusion

Three Of Us is a soulful and thought-provoking drama that deals with the power of memories and the importance of closure. The performances by Shefali Shah, Jaideep Ahlawat, Swanand Kirkire, and Kadambari Kadam are commendable, bringing out the optimism and complexity of the characters. The cinematography adds visual beauty to the storytelling, capturing the essence of the Konkan region. However, the film lacks coherence and struggles to find a clear message at times. Despite its flaws, Three Of Us is a beautiful watch that will resonate with audiences looking for a heartfelt and introspective experience.
