Plot

The film revolves around Radhika Bakshi, an intern reporter investigating the true story behind the accidents on the newly-constructed NTPC flyover in Chandigarh. She discovers that the accidents are caused due to motorists making unauthorised U-turns by removing the divider blocks. Intrigued, Radhika delves deeper into the story, only to find herself embroiled in a dangerous and sinister game of murder and mystery.

Acting

Newcomer Alaya F shines in her role as Radhika, delivering a solid performance and showcasing her acting prowess. Priyanshu Painyuli, who plays the investigating officer Arjun Sinha, gives a decent performance as well. The other actors fit their roles without too much effort.

Cinematography

Anubhav Bansal's cinematography captures the city of Chandigarh in all its eerie glory, setting the perfect tone for a thriller. The use of dark lighting and heavy rain adds to the suspense and keeps the audience on edge.

Direction

Director Arif Khan's taut direction and the screenplay by writers Parvez Sheikh and Radhika Anand ensure the story moves along quickly for most parts. Khan skillfully hooks you right from the opening scene, when an accident happens on the flyover because of traffic offenders. However, the film loses pace in a few scenes, and the script lacks sharpness and depth, with several subplots that are needlessly digressive and half-baked.

Overall Verdict

U-Turn is a remake of the 2016 Kannada film of the same name and is one of the seven remakes made worldwide. While the plot is similar to the original, this 'U-Turn' keeps you engaged throughout. The film engages you and keeps you on the edge of your seat, and the supernatural elements add to the suspense. However, the film has several plot holes and inconsistencies, and the dialogues are average. Nevertheless, the film is worth a watch for its thrilling moments, solid performances, and the topical and relevant element of the consequences of traffic violations. All in all, while not completely flawless, U-Turn is a decent thriller that will keep you guessing till the last scene.
