Movie Review: Uunchai

Plot

The film, directed by Sooraj Barjatya, is a heart-warming tale about four old friends who go on a trek to Everest Base Camp (EBC) to fulfil their deceased friend's last wish. The story follows their journey filled with uncertainties, hardships, and dilemmas.

Acting

The film boasts of a powerhouse of talent with veterans like Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Neena Gupta, Sarika, and Parineeti Chopra. Bachchan, Kher, and Irani are a riot together, bringing finesse and expertise to the screen. Neena Gupta's screen presence, dialogue delivery, and expressions are impressive, while Sarika brings poise and calm to the chaos. Parineeti Chopra's portrayal of a tour guide is convincing, and her costumes are noteworthy.

Cinematography

Manoj Kumar Khatoi's cinematography is stunning, capturing the beauty of the Himalayas and India's cultural influences. The aerial, low angle, and close-up shots are nothing short of magical, making the second half of the film a perfect visual spectacle.

Direction

Sooraj Barjatya lives up to his name and does a great job with the direction and storyline. The film hangs onto realism, making it look authentic, and the pause-and-breath moments have been shot well. The dialogues from Abhishek Dixit are apt for every situation, putting in a tinge of humor, even in the grimmest situations, without making it look odd.

Verdict

Uunchai is a heart-warming story about friendship, love, loss, dreams, desires, failures, self-belief, conviction, and promises. The film has a beautifully written story that's high on emotions and never has a dull moment. While the length of the film could have been mended, and some bits and dialogues look forced, the film is a perfect family entertainer, leaving you with a sense of solace, happiness, and fulfilment.
