Yeh Meri Family Season 2 Review: Journey down memory lane

Plot

Yeh Meri Family Season 2 takes us back to the winter of 1994 in Lucknow, focusing on the Awasthi family's daily life. Every episode explores the family's dynamics through the eyes of Ritika, a teenage girl in Class 11, as she navigates her relationship with each family member and learns more about herself. The show brilliantly captures the essence of the 90s, from simpler pleasures like playing ludo and waiting for cable TV to intergenerational relationships.

Acting

The show features a talented ensemble cast that brings their characters to life. Hetal Gada shines as Ritika, bringing an impressive range of emotions and a relatable teenage rebellion to her role. Juhi Parmar is equally impressive, making her OTT debut with a nuanced performance as the strict yet loving mother of the family. Rajesh Kumar, Anngad Maaholay, and Veena Mehta deliver equally strong performances as the rest of the Awasthi family.

Cinematography

The show's cinematography captures the essence of the 90s to perfection. The use of warm colors, vintage props, and nostalgic scenes like paper boat making and ice-pop sipping add to the show's charm and take us down memory lane.

Direction

Director Mandar Kurundkar does an excellent job of recreating the 90s era and bringing the family's daily life to screen. The show's pace is slow but deliberate, allowing us to soak in every moment of the show's nostalgia. However, the writing team's changes from the previous season are noticeable, and the show's charm is slightly affected.

Verdict

Yeh Meri Family Season 2 takes us on a journey down memory lane with its brilliant portrayal of daily life in the 90s. While the show's charm is slightly affected by the new writing team, the talented ensemble cast, and the show's nostalgia factor more than make up for it. If you're a 90s kid looking for a slice of childhood nostalgia, give Yeh Meri Family Season 2 a watch.
