Bhediya: A Spine-Chilling and Rib-Tickling Werewolf Tale

Plot:

Bhaskar, a road construction contractor, goes to Arunachal Pradesh to build a highway through the dense jungle of Ziro. However, after getting bitten by a wild animal, a series of unexpected deaths take place, leading him to believe in werewolf folklore.

Acting:

Varun Dhawan's performance as the shape-shifting wolf, Bhediya, is top-notch. He gives his all to the physical transformation, which adds value to the character's cruelty and intensity. Abhishek Banerjee as Janardan, aka JD, is hilarious with impeccable comic timing. Paalin Kabak as Bhaskar's Northeastern friend Jomin completes the werewolf pack with outstanding chemistry with both actors, especially Abhishek. Kriti Sanon's character as the vet, Dr Anika, could have been better fleshed out, with minor contributions to the drama and comedy.

Cinematography:

Cinematographer Jishnu Bhattacharjee has created a visually stunning world filled with dark and enigmatic werewolf folklore, jungles of Ziro, and mountains. The VFX is outstanding, with the lead's transformation from human to werewolf is convincing and terrifying. Monsters and creatures in films often turn more spoofy than spooky because of shoddy makeup and effects. But not in Bhediya, as the graphics team works efficiently and delivers an excellent result.

Direction:

Director Amar Kaushik excellently handles both the horror and comedy genres and strikes a fine balance. The first half is extremely gripping, perfectly setting the tone for what is to come. However, the second half could have been tighter in editing. The story smartly blends with the previous franchise Stree and opens up many possibilities for the future.

Overall Verdict:

Bhediya is an entertaining and thrilling watch with its monster-filled world and innovative story. The film handles serious and parody issues with ease, adding light-heartedness throughout. The background score adds horror to the film's spine-chilling moments, and the drama's punches land precisely, giving audiences an engaging experience.
