Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2: Spooky Fun with a Silly Story

Plot

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is a hilarious horror movie that centers on the story of Ruhan and Reet, two strangers who meet at a hill station and eventually stumble upon an abandoned haveli where Manjulika's spirit is said to be held captive. As Ruhan convinces people that he can talk to ghosts and dead people's spirits, he accidentally unleashes the spirit that's been locked there for years, leading to a series of comical encounters and ghostly revenge. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is not a sequel to the original movie, but it shares some themes and characters, including Manjulika, that pay homage to the previous film.

Acting

The acting in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is energetic and amusing, with Kartik Aaryan delivering a personable performance as Ruhan and Kiara Advani playing the sweet and naive Reet. However, the real standout performance comes from Tabu, who injects the movie with a sense of elegance and grace as the restrained and well-behaved bahu of the Thakur family, all while sporting big curly locks and overdrawn kohl that give her the perfect look of a ghostly apparition. The supporting cast, including Sanjay Mishra, Ashwini Kalsekar, Rajesh Sharma, and Rajpal Yadav, adds to the laughs and comic relief.

Cinematography

The cinematography in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 features some stunning shots of the hills and the abandoned haveli, giving the movie an eerie and spooky atmosphere. The use of props and special effects, such as the painted ghoulish face and black-clad witchy figure, adds to the horror and suspense, while the imaginative costumes perfectly complement the characters and the story.

Direction

Director Anees Bazmee expertly balances the horror and comedy in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, never taking either too seriously and instead letting the absurdity of the movie take center stage. His previous experience in directing comedy movies, such as No Entry, Welcome, and Singh is King, shines through, as he injects the movie with witty dialogues, physical and situational comedies, and excellent expressionism that keep the audience laughing and engaged throughout.

Verdict

Overall, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is a silly yet fun horror movie that knows how to laugh at itself, delivering jump scares, spooky thrills, and hilarious scenes in equal measure. Although it doesn't compare to the original movie, it stands on its own and provides a fresh and unique take on the horror-comedy genre. With its talented cast, impressive cinematography, and expert direction, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is a family entertainer that will have you laughing out loud and screaming in terror all at the same time.
