Dr. Arora: Gupt Rog Visheshagya Review
Plot
Dr. Arora is a sex doctor who runs clinics in small towns. The show revolves around his patients' struggles with sexual health and Dr. Arora's personal life. The show deals with taboo subjects such as erectile dysfunction, nightfall, and premature ejaculation. The story takes place in 1999 and shows the stigma and taboo around sexual health in India. Dr. Arora's patients include a godman, a prostitute, a political leader, and a police officer.Acting
Kumud Mishra as Dr. Arora delivers a standout performance. He portrays his character’s empathy and vulnerability with ease. Vidya Malavade as Vaishali, Dr. Arora’s ex-wife, is stunning. Gaurav Parajuli as Devendar Thakur, Ajitesh Gupta as SP Tomar, and Sandeepa Dhar as Mithu Tomar all deliver endearing performances. The supporting cast, however, has limited roles and doesn't leave a lasting impression.Cinematography
The show's backdrop of small towns and dusty old clinics add character to the narrative. The soulful songs and background music lend gravitas to the drama. However, the show's attempt at humour falls flat, and some of the music choices are questionable.Direction
Directed by Sajid Ali and Archit Kumar, the show raises awareness about how sex is stigmatized to the point where sex-related problems or sexual wellness are still taboo in India. The show uses its unique premise to explore toxic masculinity and explores how young men go to great lengths to prove that they are "manly enough" to not have problems. However, the show's meandering plot is a letdown. Conclusion
Dr. Arora: Gupt Rog Visheshagya has an interesting premise, but its execution falls short. The show attempts to tackle sensitive subjects such as toxic masculinity and sexual health, but often resorts to humour that falls flat. The show's standout performances by Kumud Mishra and Vidya Malavade are undermined by the show's uneven plot. Though it does raise awareness about sexual health in India, it does so without subtlety and sensitivity. Overall, the show is worth a watch for its unique premise and standout performances.Share this review
