Kuttey: A Dark, Twisted Thriller

Plot

Kuttey is a film about a group of characters, including Gopal, Paaji, Pammi, and Lovely, who are all trying to change their situations by planning something big. As their plans intersect, chaos ensues, and everyone fights to come out on top. The film is full of blood, gore, dark humor, and grit, and it wants to shock you.

Acting

The ensemble cast of Kuttey is impressive, featuring talented actors like Tabu, Naseeruddin Shah, Kumud Mishra, Konkona Sen Sharma, Arjun Kapoor, Radhika Madan, and Shardul Bhardwaj. Each actor delivers an honest performance, and Tabu steals the show with her portrayal of the badass boss lady, Pammi.

Cinematography

Kuttey's cinematography is well executed, with its dark and gritty narrative perfectly complemented by the catchy tune of Vishal Bharadwaj’s iconic composition 'Dhan te nan.' The film's original score by Vishal, infused with Gulzar's unique lyrics, blends well with the screenplay without stalling the pace of the movie.

Direction

Kuttey marks the directorial debut of Aasmaan Bharadwaj, who also co-wrote the story with his father Vishal Bharadwaj. Aasmaan proves his mettle by juggling an overstuffed plot and a bunch of talented actors. While the film's pacing has some issues and the sloppy sewing together of multiple storylines can be confusing, Kuttey is a wildly entertaining mishmash of guns, goons, and gaalis.

Verdict

Kuttey is a dark and twisted thriller that keeps you engaged from start to finish with its intriguingly sharp and self-centered characters. While some of its subplots get sidetracked, the fast-paced second half puts together all the puzzle pieces, leading to a impactful and hilarious twist ending. It could have been more clever, but Kuttey is an enjoyable ride nonetheless.
