Plot
The storyline follows Manoj's character, PC Solanki, a Sessions Court lawyer in Jodhpur, who fought a five-year-long battle to bring justice to a minor girl who was sexually assaulted by a self-styled godman. The film portrays the journey of this simple man fighting against the odds to bring justice under The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
Acting
Manoj Bajpayee as PC Solanki is the thread that holds the whole film together to finesse. His performance is masterful, portraying Solanki's conviction and tentativeness beautifully and bringing out his inner conflicts and dry humour in his trademark style. Among the rest of the cast, Adrija Sinha shines in her limited scenes as the victim Nu. Vipin Sharma brings out a human, almost sympathetic portrayal of the defence lawyer, and Surya Mohan Kulshrestha and Jai Hind Kumar do justice to their difficult roles.
Cinematography
The film excels in almost every department, including cinematography. The music sets the tone but does not hammer down the points. The writing is crisp and all characters are well-rounded humans.
Direction
Apoorva Singh Karki's direction is laudable. He manages to keep the film engaging without resorting to histrionics, dialogue-baazi, or melodrama that several Hindi-language courtroom dramas have resorted to over the years. He also sensitively portrays a delicate case and infuses some humour without distracting from the seriousness of the issue.
Overall
Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai is a slow-burn but engaging film that manages to keep you on the edge of your seat for its entire duration. It tells the story of one victorious case, but there is still a swamp of injustice out there. The film is an unvarnished courtroom drama that shows why Manoj Bajpayee rules the OTT space like no other.
