United Kacche Review: A Mediocre Take on the Trials and Tribulations of Asian Immigrants

Plot

Tejinder Singh aka Tango travels from small-town Punjab to the United Kingdom on a tourist visa to fulfill his father's only wish but ends up being referred to as an illegal immigrant when his visa expires. The show revolves around the struggles of Asian immigrants living illegally in foreign countries.

Acting

Sunil Grover as Tango plays the role of an illegal Indian immigrant well with his naive appearance, but the lack of writing support fails to entertain the audience. Other characters like Sajjad and Zareen generate a few laughs, but Nikhil Vijay underperforms, and Sapna Pabbi's Daisy is a welcome addition to the mediocre script. Satish Shah, the veteran comedian, is wasted as an eccentric Gujarati landlord.

Cinematography

The show has decent cinematography, with London's picturesque locations captured beautifully. However, it does not add much to the overall experience.

Direction

Manav Shah's direction fails to do justice to the story. The characters breaking the fourth wall to explain their point of view disrupts the flow of the story, causing us to miss the most enjoyable parts. The show loses sight of the vulnerabilities of people fleeing the familiar comforts of home and family to live illegally in foreign lands.

Overall Impression

The concept of 'United Kacche' is quite interesting, but the show fails to deliver. The story loses sight of its purpose, and the writing support is not up to the mark. Despite a few funny moments, the show is mostly unfunny and tests the audience's patience. The title song is upbeat and humorous, but the same cannot be said for the whole series.
