CAT Review

Plot

CAT is a crime thriller set in the drug-ridden state of Punjab, where Gurnaam Singh, played by Randeep Hooda, goes undercover for cops to bust a major drug empire. The series explores Gurnaam's journey as he confronts his dark past and struggles to maintain his cover, becoming a pawn in the game of power and money.

Acting

The best part of the series is undoubtedly Randeep Hooda's performance, portraying a man torn between his conscience and duty with ease. Other standout performances include Suvinder Vicky as Sehtab Singh, and Hasleen Kaur as the zealous cop Babita. Each character has their own backstory, adding depth to the narrative.

Cinematography

Arvind Krishna's cinematography captures Punjab's rustic feel and realness well. The series is filled with upbeat and peppy Punjabi songs, which blend well with the narrative. The background music by Jam8 and Joel Crasto adds energy to the show.

Direction

Creators Balwinder Singh Janjua, Jimmy Singh, and Rupinder Chahal have crafted a tightly-woven narrative, with each episode building on the previous one. However, the show becomes overly indulgent and sluggish midway through, and some of the characters' backstories become too much to handle.

Overall Verdict

CAT is Randeep Hooda's triumph, and he overshadows everyone else in the cast with his presence and performance. The show's understanding of Punjab's earthiness and the lingo resonates with the audience, making it believable and real. Though it may not be subtle, the show makes up for it with a gripping plot and strong performances. If you're a fan of intense dramas with fascinating plot twists, you'll enjoy CAT.
